I've been having a really hard week this week. Potty Training has begun. Oy. How I loathe the process of potty training. With Claira it took 4 years to get her potty trained. Trust me, a lot of frustrated tears were shed during those carpet stained, couch soaked, never ending laundry years...for momma and baby.
I was changing Dylan's diaper on Monday, as usual, and I experienced a wave of "yuck, I'm so done with poopy diapers" feeling. So, in my moment of naive bravery I opened my big mouth and said "hey Dyl, what do you think about wearing undies like a big boy & going poop on the potty?" He was ECSTATIC. He wanted to go to the store & pick out undies NOW. So we went. He picked out the cutest little boy undies you ever did see. Mickey mouse clubhouse and of course a fun pack of Disney greats all boys around the globe would swoon over....Cars, Nemo, Buzz Lightyear & Woody.
As soon as we got home he ripped open the package & put on his first pair of undies. I decided going 'cold turkey' would be my approach here. Pull-ups seemed to confuse Claira so I didn't want to mess with them this time. at least not yet. I wanted to see how he did with undies first.
It's day 3. I woke up this morning to a bright blue eyed boy smiling and kissing and hugging on me...pretty much the best way to wake up. He got in bed with me & we snuggled up together. He smells so good in the morning...dragon breath and all. As I was drifting in & out of groggy 'is it really 6:30 in the morning' sleep, he sat up and said "Can I lay up mom?" "Huh?" I ask "Can I lay up?" and I realized he meant "can I sit up?". "um, yeah go ahead buddy". it was pretty cute.
He hopped out of bed, ran over to his dresser and picked out his undies for the day. He was so excited that he started hugging and kissing his undies. Oh, I love my son. It's things like this I wanted to write down & remember. So when I cry later today because I'm cleaning up another accident...I can try to remember the cute & the good in my life & not sweat the small stuff.
Think of me this week. Wish me luck.
